PUPPY WELFARE
SAFETY AND WELFARE OF OUR PUPPIES IS OUR TOP PRIORITY.
Here are some of our key considerations and practices taken on the day to ensure that the welfare and safety needs of our animals are met:
-
Our studios are thoroughly checked for any risks that could potentially cause a threat to our puppies.
This involves checking for choking hazards; making sure there is nothing in the area that could potentially be picked up and ingested by curious pups. We also make sure our customers remove any loose-hanging jewellery and do not bring in any items that could be hazardous to the animals.
We puppy-proof any gateways or entries to any areas that could be considered places of concern for the animals to ensure that they have zero access to higher-risk areas.
We understand that puppies are curious by nature, so we take extra care to remove or restrict access to any items of caution, such as wires that puppies might chew or heavy items of furniture they might jump on/knock over.
-
We ensure that puppies have an abundance of fresh water available to them at all time.
We ensure that the water bowls are continuously cleaned and replenished.
We work with our breeders to make sure that the puppies are fed the correct quantity of food at a frequency that aligns with their usual routines.
-
We have a thorough cleaning schedule to minimise risk in our studios.
Customers and staff are required to sanitise upon entry to the premises.
We make sure all guests and staff remove outdoor shoes before entering the studio space.
We sanitise the studio with parvo-virucide before and after each set of classes.
Puppies are also provided a clean area to rest between classes whereby puppy mats are regularly replaced and the area is cleaned and sanitised throughout the event day.
-
Safety demos are given to each class before any interaction between guests and the puppies is allowed to take place.
This involves a demonstration on how to pick up the puppies, highlighting the importance of avoiding pressure on any more delicate areas such as their joints.
We also brief customers on safety moving around the room whilst the puppies are inside - standing, entering and leaving the premises etc.
We also account for any breed specific safety concerns and our breeding partners' requests surrounding safety and puppy-handling is always taken into consideration and reflected in these safety demonstrations.
We also have staff in the space at all time to monitor all puppy-handling and oversee the guest/animal interactions throughout the event.
All our sessions begin with 25 minutes of yoga before the puppies enter the room for a period of puppy playtime. Towards the end, we close the session with gentle yoga poses that the pups can get involved with. These are more relaxed postures, such as lying down or stretching, that allow the puppies to safely socialise and jump over guests without being at risk.
-
Typically, puppies require 18 hours of sleep each day.
Our puppies are given a minimum of 30 minutes of resting time between each class or each period of guest-interaction.
Additionally, we allow our puppies the freedom to spend each session how they naturally choose to. We appreciate that they are animals and, like us, they experience different moods throughout the day; some sessions the puppies may be more playful and energetic and choose to run around the guests and play games, some sessions they may be more sleepy and prefer to nap on the yoga mats with guests and engage in lots of cuddles and petting-time. Unlike other puppy yoga companies that often wake up puppies or force them to exhibit a certain type of behaviour, we respect the natural behaviour of the animals and allow the energy of the class to reflect the natural behaviour of the puppies and their mood/requirements.
